There is something special about returning to a place you already love. This March, I found myself back in Latpanchar, a quiet gem tucked away in the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary. Even though it was my second time here, the crisp mountain air and the melody of the forest felt brand new.
For this trip, I stayed at the Little Hill Homestay. It’s exactly what the name suggests—a cozy, welcoming spot that makes you feel like a local the moment you walk in.
The main highlight of this trip was, of course, the birdlife. Latpanchar is famous for its feathered residents, and I spent a significant amount of time at a bird hide. Sitting quietly in the hide is a lesson in patience, but it pays off when the birds land just a few feet away, completely unaware of the camera.
My guide was Dipendra Khawas and his knowledge of the terrain and his ability to spot movement in the dense canopy is incredible. Whether you are a seasoned photographer or just a nature lover, having a guide who knows the heartbeat of the forest makes all the difference.

March is a wonderful time to visit. The weather is pleasant, and the forest is full of life. If you’re looking for a peaceful escape with plenty of opportunities for photography, Latpanchar should definitely be on your list.
